Araneus diadematus – Awaiting lunch to arrive

Day 128 of my 365 Photo Challenge.

Today’s photo shows the garden cross spider, which I discovered during my renewed visit to the Wallnau reserve of the German Nature Conservation Association along a circular path.

The cross spider was enthroned in the middle of the web and had a considerable size. Fortunately, spiders in Germany are known to be harmless to humans.

Anyway, I was very impressed by it!

Gonepteryx rhamni

Day 113 of my 365 Photo Challenge.

The sun is shining mercilessly today. Sometimes the thermometer reaches up to 32 degrees Celsius. Actually, a day to stay indoors. Nevertheless, I made my way to the local floodplains to look for butterflies and insects.

I did not have to search for long. The flower meadows were full of butterflies and bees searching the flowers for nectar.

My theme of the day is the lemon butterfly. This specimen is a male, which can be distinguished by its bright yellow colour and the inconspicuous orange spot on each wing.

Once again, my proven 70 – 200 mm F2.8 lens was used. I also refrained from using a tripod, because it would have been too much of a handicap.

Have fun while watching.

Anas platyrhynchos

Day 105 of my 365 Photo Challenge.

Due to the excellent weather, I continued to concentrate on taking pictures of wild birds, plants and insects.

After I had already captured swans and wild geese in my pictures, I tried my hand at wild ducks today.

I discovered this example of a mallard duck close to the waterline of our local lake.

Their chicks had just made themselves comfortable in a reed group to spend the next hours sleeping. Like any mother, the lady duck naturally watched over her chicks.

Obviously, she did not consider me a threat and showed no shyness towards me. So I could approach her leisurely to take a full-size picture of her.

For me, it is imperative not to keep the animals from their usual activities and to expose them to unnecessary stress!

I hope you stick to the same!

The busy little bee

Day 96 of my 365 Photo Challenge.

After 4 days in the state capital Berlin, I had to go back to nature and take some colourful pictures.

It was good that the sunflowers are still in full bloom and provide excellent motives.

Today, I complicated flowers and insects into one picture. It was adorable to watch the busy bees collecting pollen.

I hope you have as much fun as I did, looking at the photo!

Am I not cute?

Day 77 of my 365 Photo Challenge.

Today I used the excellent weather for a trip to our local lake to see if the little swan chicks have hatched yet. I had already reported about the swan couple in several posts.

During my visit today I was pleased to find out that a total of 3 swan chicks have hatched. The little ones were already busy on their feet and were feeding.

In contrast to the swans at the Ammersee, this swan family showed no shyness towards me.

On the contrary, I seemed to belong to them somehow. So I was able to sit down nearby and watch the little chicks in peace and quiet and to take some pictures from time to time.

In the end, the little ones even started to eat the grass between my legs.

Of course, I always kept an eye on the parents, just in case of a sudden change of mood to be able to go on distance.

I hope you have fun looking at the picture!

Pähler Waterfall

Day 73 of my 365 Photo Challenge.

After the weather improved incredibly today, I use the opportunity for a trip to the foothills of the Alps to take pictures of one or the other waterfall.

I visited today’s waterfall near Pähl already 4 weeks ago, but due to the dryness and low water level of the river, it was hardly visible. All the wilder and more furious, he presented himself to me today.

Besides, I was fortunate once again. For there was no other person in the ravine but me. So I had a lot of time to find the right angle and take long time exposures.

I arrived relatively early at the waterfall, around 06:00, this saved me the use of a neutral density grey filter. I also omitted the use of a polarization filter to better represent the flow velocity of the mountain stream.

For my part, I think that I did a pretty good job with the shot, and I was able to add another magnificent waterfall to my portfolio.

Have fun looking at the photo.

Just another rainy day!

Day 66 of my 365 Photo Challenge.

Today I took a little break concerning my Munich subway station project. Therefore I concentrated on nature photography today. Since the weather is still awful and it is raining continuously, I tried to reflect this weather mood in my photos.

I liked best the leaf of a blueberry bush, which was covered all over with raindrops.

If you get very close, you can see the reflection of the other leaves on the surface of the raindrop.

I took this picture freehand with a 50mm f1.4 lens. For the aperture I used F4, the shutter speed was set to 1/125 sec, and the ISO value was 250.

I hope you like the photo again!

Underground Station Boehmerwaldplatz

Day 63 of my 365 Photo Challenge.

Another rainy day. Therefore I decided to continue with the creation of photos of subway stations in Munich.

The destination of my photo trip today was the subway station „Böhmerwaldplatz“, which is located in the district „Bogenhausen“.

The platform is located in a curve and has a row of columns in the middle of the platform.

These columns are covered with green enamelled metal sheets, which are tree-shaped in the upper area, which reminds of the eponymous Böhmerwald. This „tree row“ spans almost the entire platform area.

The walls are clad with light blue metal sheets, which offer a sharp contrast to the bright green.

I decided to photograph the station with one of the columns directly in the middle to continue the surreal look.

I hope that I succeeded?

Look, how big I am!

Day 56 of my 365 Photo Challenge.

Today I revisited our local lake to check whether the swan chicks had already arrived. Unfortunately, the Swan Female was still sitting in their nest and no signs of the swan offspring.

Instead, the male swan was very active in exploring its surroundings for additional food sources.

He did not show any scariness at all and willingly posed in front of my camera.

I hope it will be the same when the little chicks arrived.

It is not funny to be attacked by a male swan, trying to protect its offspring from assumed enemies!

Moving Sky

Day 55 of my 365 Photo Challenge.

After concentrating on nature and landscape photography in the past days, I decided to shoot an object in the urban area.

Because of the fantastic cloud drawing in the sky, I had the idea to include the Oskar-von-Miller Tower of the Technical University of Munich in the photo again. As a meteorological measuring tower, it offered itself as a foreground for the fast-moving clouds.

A polarization filter and a 10 stop neutral-grey filter were used. Thereby I could extend the exposure time to 3 minutes to capture the movements in the cloud layers.

I hope you agree with me that the cloud play is impressive!
